Increasing your standing in the search engines all comes down to having more links than your competitors. These links are anchor text which has your keyword as the text and the URL of your webpage as the place where visitors are sent once the click. If you have the most of these links under a particular keyword, on as many reputable or page ranked(PR ranked) websites, the more the changes of your site coming up number one in Google when someone searches under that keyword.

Choosing the right keywords to focus on is the most crucial aspect of the search engine ranking process. Focusing on a keyword that has too much competition basically means that your site will never be seen. And by focusing on a seldom searched keyword wont give you any traffic. The rule to follow is that the shorter the keyword the more competition it is likely to have, the longer the keyword the less competition it may have. You can find out how long it will take you to reach number one in search engine results by utilizing a website or software that will count the number of links that a website has. You can use this information to determine if you can gain as many links as your competition has for your website, and decide how long it will take you to accomplish based on your time and resources.

That is why picking longer keywords is important; the sites that rank number one for these keywords probably don’t have many links so it shouldn’t take much time to replace them as number one in the search engines.

Having your website placed in business directories is the fastest way to have links with your keyword anchor text visible on the internet. You can submit your website URL as well as well as the keyword you would like to use as a heading, and a description of your website to these business directory websites. Approval of your content is usually given on the same day with a confirmation link sent to your e-mail. You can also outsource this work if you find it too time consuming. There are companies that will take your information and submit it to hundreds of directories for you. If you decide to outsource make sure that they are being submitted to as many authority or page ranked sites as possible.

Overall if you focus yourself in this way you will see a good amount of traffic for any product you decide to sell.

Search engines are used to quickly find businesses, products or services via the search tool bar and/or browser. This feature is offered by every web hosting service used on the internet. Google and Yahoo search are the widest use search engines on the internet today. Millions of people have either the Google search and/or Yahoo search tool bars in addition to the Internet explore search bar . Typically an individual will put in the companies name, a word, or series of words in efforts to find a specific business or list of businesses which offer the same or similar services.

Sometimes you will not be able to find a specific type of business through every search engine being that most businesses use the most popular or widely used search engines to register their URL. Some search engines require the registration of the website including a monthly or annual hosting fee. Many companies utilize this form or marketing to make their business more visual and easily found on the web. However, registering your website with the major search engines does not provide you with advertisement. It simply makes it easier to find a website.

Some websites even allow you to submit your website URL for free! Free website submissions are a a great way to start submitting your URL to most popular search engines at no cost to you. Search Engine Marketing sites sometimes contain free tools such as your URL to upwards of 20 popular search engines from one website location. Now that’s what i call convenience!

If you want people to be able to search for you on such large search engine sites such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN, the clear first step is Search Engine Submission. It is the only way to get your website included in the search engines’ database which allows your prospective customers to find you. Think of the Internet as an infinite yellow pages. If your business isn’t listed…nobody would know how to find you. A business can not flourish without this type of marketing.

Do not forget, however, to also register with less commonly used search engine sites as well. Any business would be remiss to completely overlook the lesser known search engines as well. Sometimes consumers are sick of the same old result pages when searching for a key word and will most likely turn to a lesser known and lesser used search engine for a fresh new look at the answers to their search query.

Once you have covered both the commonly used search engines and the lesser known search engines, your website URL will have a greater chance of being a result of a keyword search query which will in turn increase the traffic to your site.

It is wrong to think that making a website is just a case of putting together some text and pictures, getting it online, and then sitting back as the money rolls in.

If you want to write a website that will “Generate Sales” you need to do a few things more than simple website design.

After finding a company to host you website, you will be able to view it online, but only by typing the web address directly into a web browser. This is no good, unless your website is found and indexed by the various search engines, you will not get any visitors to it.

If you want to be found online, here’s what you need to do.

When you write your website, keep in mind the keywords that potential customers will type in to find you. Make your website URL includes these keywords if possible. As an example, if your keyword is ‘website design’ and you are targeting customers in Ireland, it would be ideal to have a web address that has both ‘website design’ and ‘Ireland’ in it.

You should also make use of your chosen keywords in the title and header of each page of your website. Also, make sure you get your keyword ratio for your site text approximately at 5% of words being keywords. The point of this is that it makes it easier for search engines to work out what your website is about. The more they know about this, the more favourably they will rank your website in their search results.

Adding the name of a location, either before or after the product or service you are offering, is something to consider too. By adding a location to the keyword you instantly remove the vast amount of competing websites as your competition. You get more focused and targeted visitors to your site, which is great because the more focused and targeted they are, the more likely you are to make a sale.

Having made sure that your on-site SEO is in place, you next need to look at “backlinking”. If you over look this aspect of SEO, Google, Yahoo and Bing will almost certainly ignore your website. Your website will be ranked according to how accurately you have performed your SEO and the amount of sites that are linking to yours. You objective is to find ways to get other websites to link yours. The more links you get, the higher your website will rank.

These are just a few of the techniques that can be used, but this is of course more to it than this.

You can always consult with a specialist SEO company if you would like further help with anything else SEO related.
