One of the most discussed topics to do with search engine optimization is keyword density. The idea it is that if you’re try to rank for a specific phrase on the major search engines then the question is how regularly should you sprinkle that phrase throughout your web page?
This is a great question and you need to get this right because not using the keyword enough and you are not telling the search engines that your page is targeting the key phrase and using it too much and your sure to get penalized for keyword spamming.
So is there an ideal keyword density if you trying to produce content that is SEO friendly?
There are a lot of ’seo experts’ that will try and recommend a percentage that your keyword should be used on a page in relation to the rest of the content, but that is a little two mechanical for me. Personally, I like a simpler approach that allows you to please both the search engines are your real visitors.
Keyword Density Method
1. In Your Page Title
A lot of experts agree that the majority of search ranking weight is in your page title. So it is important that you put your keyword in the page title.
2. In Your First Paragraph
Make sure that your keyword is in the first paragraph of your content. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in the first sentence but somewhere near the start of the page shows that you really are talking about what your page title says.
3. The Middle
The amount of times that you use your keyphrase really depends on how long your content is. If your main content is under 250 words, I would only add the phrase one more time, but for long I would use it a maximum of three times.
4. The Last Paragraph
Obviously the search engines want to know that you really are writing about the phrase you are targeting so add it one more time in the last paragraph.
These really are just common sense tips, but you would be surprised how many people get it wrong.
