When Everything Goes Wrong: How to Effectively Manage the Rest
When Everything Goes Wrong: How to Effectively Manage the Rest of Your Day
Your workday will likely suffer if your water heater bursts and floods your home or office but you dont have to lose the entire day when less serious interruptions occur. Although it is tempting to tell yourself something like, well, half the day is already gone so why worry about the other half, most of the time its worth trying to salvage what you can of the rest of the day so you can keep your business on track. When you practice effective time management skills, unforeseen circumstances dont have to spell disaster.
Discipline, Discipline, Discipline!
Imagine for a moment that you have a boss. (You may have many; they are called clients or customers.) When you have a boss looking over your shoulder, though, you are expected to get right back to work after a break. You cant just blow off the rest of the day because your best friend just called about a terrific sale. Remember, most events and situations, short of real emergencies, can be managed and planned for ahead of time. Even one-day sales are often advertised ahead of time and if you plan for them ahead of time, you can save time and money.
If youre a serious Internet marketer, you should already be screening your phone calls and taking personal calls only when youre not working. Sure, kids get sick and things come up but unless it is really necessary to take the rest of the day off, take care of the situation at hand and then get back to work! Successful Internet marketers utilize time management skills to plan for distractions, manage them, and then get back to work!
Administrative Duties
Set aside a certain amount of time each week to take care of administrative duties. This is also when you should make your own schedule and check over any lists you may need to make or adjust for the following week. Also, check your supplies during this time so that you do not have to rush out to purchase ink or toner or any other critical supplies during the middle of your workday.
You probably already know how hard it is to get back to work after you leave your office in the middle of the day to run a quick errand, especially if the weather is nice. Its too easy to stop for lunch, drop off the dry cleaning, and pick up dinner while youre out. Before you know it, the day is shot and the rest of the family is home and demanding your attention. Smart entrepreneurs set aside time to do the shopping and errands and leave work time to grow their business. It may take a while to develop effective time management skills, but by practicing simple tips and techniques and by being self-disciplined, your time and your business can be managed effectively.
Internet Marketing Basics
Internet marketing, while basic in concept, can quickly become complicated if youre new to the arena. While searching the Internet for information, you will likely come upon concepts youve never heard of before that sound terribly complicated. Rest assured, as you grow your business you will become familiar with everything that has to do with Internet marketing. To get started, though, the basics will do.
What is Internet Marketing and how does it Work?
While there are thousands of successful Internet marketers, there are just as many people walking around who believe that anything for sale online must be a scam. They truly dont realize that people are making their dreams come true every day by leaving dead-end jobs and becoming their own bosses. They just cant conceive of the notion that virtually anyone can start an online business and be successful.
Internet marketing, in its most basic sense, just means selling something online. Interestingly enough, the same people that doubt the validity of Internet marketing patronize retail establishments every day that sell millions of dollars of their inventory online. The good news is that you dont have to be a major retail outlet to set up shop online. Anyone can do it!
Digital and Physical Products
Even something as simple as selling your childrens outgrown clothes on eBay constitutes Internet marketing. Many Internet marketers sell digital products, such as ebooks, reports, software, etc. Once the buyer pays for his purchase, he is able to instantly download the product. Buyer and seller are both happy.
Most Internet marketers have their own websites, which is just an online version of a brick and mortar store without all the overhead. You dont have to have your own website to be an Internet marketer; you can get started without one by selling other peoples products. This is usually referred to as affiliate marketing and thousands of people regularly make a living doing this as well.
Other Forms of Internet Marketing
Writers, Graphic Designers, and coders, or people who write programs in computer languages are also Internet marketers. They produce a product and then find a buyer. They may or may not have their own website. Often, they are producing content for the buyers website. There are job boards and auction sites where talented artists and buyers can come together and negotiate deals.
Internet marketing takes many forms and if you are interested in a career as an Internet marketer, there are many types of Internet marketing to choose from. You may want to do some research to see what your options are and see what is available that coincides with your area of interest.
Increase your profits with Bonuses, Freebies, and Trials
Even paying customers appreciate a freebie now and then and by going the extra mile and throwing in a little extra, you can increase your Internet marketing revenue.
Bonuses
How many times have your purchased something knowing you were going to get something free along with the purchase? Didnt you feel a little extra excitement? You may have even congratulated yourself for making such a good deal. Offering bonuses is a smart Internet marketing strategy that is regularly used by successful Internet marketers because it works.
Be sure when you do offer bonuses that they are useful. Dont just throw something into the pile that you werent able to sell and call it a bonus. Disappoint your customers and they wont be customers for long. Remember the old rule of thumb: Underpromise and Overdeliver. Give your customers more than what they are expecting and they will be return customers. Disappoint them even once and they will be history.
Freebies
Another smart Internet marketing strategy is to give your potential customers something for free without them having to buy anything at all. Everybody likes to get something for nothing once in a while and if you impress your website visitors with a freebie, they are likely to return to make a purchase. Again, even if it is free, make sure it is something of value. A large part of successful Internet marketing is building relationships with your potential customers so that they will trust you and become loyal customers.
Free Trials
Not all Internet marketing efforts will be appropriate to offer free trials to but for the ones that are, this is an excellent Internet marketing strategy. Free trials let your customers try out the product before they spend any money. Then if they like the product, say, after a month, if they want to continue to use it, they would either purchase it outright or pay a monthly free.
Many software applications work well for this Internet marketing technique. Users can use the software for a certain period of time, after which, they must either purchase the software or stop using it. In addition, websites that offer memberships also work well with this strategy. Dating sites use this strategy often to bring in new customers.
Offering your customers and potential customers something for nothing may be the perfect way for them to give you something their money!
