Showing up on the first page of results in the major search engines can bring you tens of thousands of visitors per month.

Here is how to get links to your site. Look up sites that relate to the theme of your websites. Ask them to do a link exchange with you. In the email provide a link to the page that you are displaying their link on. Now the ball is in their court. They will either accept your offer or not. If they do not accept your offer, you may then take their link off of your sites.
Implement Pay Per Click advertising. Although PPC costs money, it can be a great way to drive highly targeted traffic to your site. If you select the right keywords and make clever bidding choices it can prove to be very cost effective and useful. Google Adwords and Overture are the two largest PPC companies. Also, MSN and Yahoo offer pay per click advertising as well. To get the most out of PPC you need to be equipped with a fair amount of knowledge. I suggest buying a publication on the subject before embarking on a campaign.

Website Traffic Oxygen To Your Online Business

Website traffic is a resource to your online business. When I say a resource, I mean you must do something to get it, build it or drive it. Website visitors do not land on your page by accident.
Online business is not like a brick-and-mortal shop that if you rent a shop at the central district, you have the traffic. It does not work this way.
This is my slogan: you have website traffic –> you have business –> you have income
How do you drive traffic to your website? Firstly, I want to classify traffic into two categories:
1. Free Traffic
2. Paid Traffic
I will start with free traffic first.
What is free traffic in the first place? In general, free traffic means that you get visitors from somewhere with no monitory investment. However you need to invest time and effort, which have a price tag. For example, one of the most popular ways to get free traffic is to post articles on an popular articles site.
Paid traffic, in contrast, required you to pay for it to get visitors to visit your website. One of the most common way to get paid traffic is buying traffic from search engine such as Google.com. The most popular one is none other the Google’s AdWords.
Should you start with free or paid traffic? I started playing with free traffic before I paid for it.Here is what I did most, though there are many other methods. I will mention what I have done.
Free traffic strategies I used:
1. Article marketing - I wrote and put up articles onto popular article website like EzineArticles.com and a few others.
2. Blogging - I created my own blog, visit other people’s blogs and leave comments and backlinks to my website.
3. Search Engine submission - What you are reading now is a page that I have created and submitted to search engine. In the event that search engine found my site and list it on the search result page, I get free traffic.
4. Link Exchange - I did this for my theme-based website like this one. When I found a website that complements my theme, I request the web master to link to my site and I link back to his or her site in return.
5. Forum posts - I participated in meaning discussion and leave a link of my website at my signature box.
The above five ways are what I did to get free website traffic. There are many other method that I will try out. I have gathered some very useful resource on how to get free traffic in an ebook. You may want to check it out.
Paid website traffic strategies I used:
1. Buying a list - I basically piggy-back my sale page link in other people’s mailing list as a sponsored ads.
2. Pay Per Click - I have a Google AdWords account. I pay only when people click on the ads I place on the search engine result page. This method allows me to have a better control over who I want to bring to my website. However, it requires some learning and initial mistakes to be a conversant AdWords advertiser.
3. Paid article marketing - I also pay to get article marketing site to deliver my articles to various articles website.
The above examples are not exhaustive though. They are just a few of my favorites. There are a number of other traffic generation strategies. Many of them methods are free. I run my theme-based vitamin supplements site using these strategies to get traffic. Most of them are free traffic.
