Promoting Your Business by Word of Mouth
Many business owners take careful consideration into the type
of advertising they buy. They want to choose the right keyword
for their pay-per-click campaigns or the best publications and
websites for their other paid ads. However, there is a free
type of advertising that deserves just as much attention, but is
largely ignored. That type of advertising is known as “word of
mouth.”
Positive word of mouth advertising happens when a client or
colleague recommends you and your business to another person.
Of course, negative word of mouth advertising can happen, too.
That is when someone dissuades another person from using your
services. There are several things you can do to generate
positive word of mouth advertising.
Providing quality products and services will set you apart from
the competition and greatly increases the chances of receiving
positive word of mouth advertising. If you do a great job on a
project for someone, they will definitely let others know about
it. Plus, they’ll want to hire you again for any upcoming
projects they have. Performing quality work is definitely the
first step in generating a solid customer base.
Along with providing great work, you’ll also want to provide
great customer service. Your clients can easily hire someone
else to do the work they hired you for. Taking the time to
respond daily to emails, quote requests and phone calls is very
important. When your business is too big for you to do this by
yourself, outsource this function to a virtual assistant.
Past and current clients are not the only ones who will refer
you to new clients. Networking with other, non-competing
business owners who can pass your name out to their own clients
will help too. A virtual assistant, graphic designer, and
ghostwriter can all share the same clients.
If you haven’t taken the time out to brand your business, you
may want to consider taking the time to do that now. When you
brand your business, people will automatically associate you
with that brand. When they meet someone in need of your
products or services, they will easily remember your business
and therefore, be more likely to refer you.
Some examples of branding strategies include Nike, Apple, and
even Rachael Ray. You know that when you want athletic shoes,
Nike has them. Apple is known for having the best, most cutting
edge Mp3 players. And if you want a speedy 30 minute meal, you
don’t have to look any farther than one of Rachael Ray’s
television shows, books, magazines or DVDs.
Word-of-mouth advertising can be very effective. If used
correctly, you’ll be reaching many new customers, and you won’t
have to pay a dime for it.
Helpful Tips For List Building
Author : Christopher Freville
Here’s how it goes, usually: you read and hear so much about list building that inevitably you realize its enormous potential. When you realize this, you learn up everything possible about how to do it yourself. Probably you actually put together a perfectly promising list. You are rigorous, listening to the advice of tech sages in both spirit and letter. But beyond this point something goes wrong. You even pay up for an autoresponder service and see impressive growth thanks to co-registration. And yet you end up making less than is needed to cover basic expenses.
So what is the problem with that picture?
A possible mistake is that you didn’t put in enough thorough research when you started list building in your chosen niche. Sure, it’s your passion, but the fact is that many others probably think of it as their very own, too. You will have to distinguish your business in other, subtler ways. You won’t know, for example, how many people are interested in, say, “hand-made tie-and-dye animal portrait t-shirts” until you park out several search engines and count how many people are actively searching for them. However, you can do the work and be assured that there is great potential with your niche of choice and still fail to make money. Building a list is only part of the real work. Establishing an atmosphere of rapport and interactivity with your audience/ userbase is crucial.
Here are a few tips that may help in that area.
1) Don’t be afraid to give information away. Generosity is key. Suggest free products useful to your niche’s audience on your list. Offer quality products that will enhance their businesses and/or their lives, and they will be bound to respond positively. Even more so if you can establish yourself as an expert in your niche. Write up some articles and try to get them in article directories. You also need to be well-informed about what people in your niche think and want, so joining forums is a good idea. Lurking isn’t, though: ask and answer questions, interact. People will be that much more willing to consider you an expert if you consistently help them. What you are building here is trust, absolutely crucial if you want a good reputation. A good reputation will mean that people will also want to buy products based on your recommendations.
2) The products you sell should align well with your niche and be things people in that niche want. If you are in the niche for Chihuahuas, you don’t really want to push scratching posts to your list’s members. It’s not even funny, although you will probably make a few random sales just because dog owners often have cats, too, but the focus of your efforts should be on, well, dog owners. Don’t waste your time or your audience’s. Whatever the product may be, buy it and do a trial first. Selling a bad product to your list, however unintentional, will bounce back in a highly negative way. The refunds are the least of your worries: the damage it will do to your credibility will be immense. Slip up in this and no list building strategy can save your business. Take it from the sales pros: every unhappy customer tells, on an average, 27 other people, and bad news travels fast. The accumulative effect can freeze your business.
3) Form good working relationships with people on your niche with large lists. Make the effort to go to conventions and meet people, it’s a great way to make connections. You should also try to meet people who are financially successful at list building, chances are they will give you some solid advice. You can even think about becoming joint venture partners with such people when you have developed your own list - it’s a win-win proposition for sure.
List building is by no means the automatic road to a luxury penthouse at Silicone Valley. Making a decent profit from the business may seem a challenge to some people. But if you build up a list of buyers you have managed to establish good relationships with, you can potentially make a million dollars in one day. The success and health of your list building will depend largely on your ability to bond, and the quality of information and recommendations you provide people. If you can do all that, just watch how your list becomes a crucial asset to your business, perhaps even the central activity at the heart of it.

Building Your List Starting Your List from Scratch
Author : Cris Santeiro
Building your list is essential to internet marketing. Every internet marketer with any success has a list of responsive subscribers. It is very important to have people subscribed to your list to promote to them.
Here are the steps to take to build your list:
1. Set up an autoresponder. This is a third party service that you will set up to automatically send your emails to your list at your scheduled intervals. You create a relationship with your list by emailing them on a regular basis. You want to build the trust of your subscribers so that they will buy from you. The best way to do this is by offering them good content that will be useful to them, as well as promoting quality products to sell to them.
2. Make a squeeze page. A squeeze page is a small sales page of no more than 300 words where you are going to promote an offer. It usually consists of a headline, a list of benefits, and a call to action. The main purpose of the squeeze page is to obtain the names and email addresses of the subscribers and in this way add them to your list.
3. Create an offer. This can be a paid offer or a free offer. It is a good idea to create free offers to build your list. For example, you can offer a weekly newsletter for people to sign up to your list. The newsletter is actually a good way also to build a relationship with your list, as you will be communicating with them in your own voice on a weekly or biweekly basis.
Once you have the above three ingredients you are ready to promote your offers. There are many different ways that you can do this. You can set up ad marketing campaigns, whether on free sites or by pay per click advertising on the search engines. You can do article marketing and submit your articles to article directories as well as social bookmarking, and ezines directories.
The social media is another way to promote yourself and build your list. Twitter and Facebook, are two of the most popular sites on the Internet for gaining exposure as an internet marketer.
The forums are another similar way of social media, where people in the different niches congregate. There are many forums that specialize in the different niches. You build relationships by exchanging ideas and views with others in your same niche. You also contribute whatever knowledge you have to answer questions that other people ask.
Building your list will always be an ongoing process. The more people you have on your list, the better. You will also lose some along the way, as anyone can opt out at any time. You are always going to be using the above 3 steps. These are the basics of any internet marketing campaign.
