Understandably broadband customers expect a higher website loading speed. However it was surprising to see that 45% of dialup users were also unwilling to wait for more than 6 seconds for the page to load.

Moreover, power shoppers, those who spend more than $1500 each time they shop, demand these faster website loading speed.

16% reported that they will never visit the retailers offline store after a bad experience online.

After analyzing these results Jupiter Research concludes by recommending that online retailers ensure a website that loads in 4 seconds or less.

The year 2010 brings more expectations from customers than ever. According to a follow up research conducted by Akamai in association with Forrester Research it was found that poor website performance has a huge impact on customer loyalty. The world has become faster paced as customers do not want to wait even 2 seconds for the page to load.

According to an Internet Retailers retail survey:

68% of retailers say their home page loads within 3 seconds

43% of the retailers sites load in 2 seconds

81.8% of websites for dial up users load within 30 seconds

50.6% of sites load within 15 seconds for dial up users

43.3% of retailers feel that features such as AJAX animation and video impact the loading time of site to a great extent.

According to the Internet Retailer it is absolutely necessary to gauge site performance with the help of custom applications added to the web hosting service and ecommerce platform and performance of new page treatments such as A/B testing before hosting. This is to ensure that all functions and features that work best in certain environments continue to work efficiently when installed on the retailers platform.

Knowing exactly what you have to monitor, fine tuning your website on a constant basis, and maintaining a consistent and high website loading speed is extremely vital to the success of any online venture.

Search engine optimization is a way to improve your websites online presence. As search engines are virtual robots that work on instructions provided by online users and they are the only way how you can let the users know about your website or business. Therefore it is very important to let the search engines know about your website first.

Unlike human being, search engines recognize the type of website with help of keywords. Keywords are phrases or single words that tell about your website. To let the search engines know, keywords are to be placed at different location where the search engines look for such as title, header tags, Meta tags, anchor text etc. one must remember that placing keywords that are unrelated or highly competitive will not give any results. Hence, one must be very careful in choosing keywords for your website.

Follow these steps to achieve better results by choosing SEO keywords.

Start writing keywords that are related to website niche and one that you think people will search for the services that you provide with your website. Get opinion with others like family members, colleagues and customers before arriving at final list. Ask them what keywords they would use or will use to find that website or in that niche.

To get broad list of keywords, get a keyword tool as that can give you more suggestion that may not be possible you being a human being. Keyword tool comes out with huge list of keywords because it search whole web for keywords that same niche websites are using. It will also tell you the popularity of the keywords and the likely traffic that they can bring in to your website.

Look at your competitor’s website for keywords they are using. You can find out this in the source code or keyword tag.

The other method you can find out keyword competitiveness is by entering keyword in to search engines and look for number of hits that search engine returns for that particular keyword. It will probably give a large number usually in millions, so to refine further by using “all in title” and “all in anchor” methods.

Google trends is another best way to find out how many searches have been made for that particular term. This way one can analyze the searchablity of the keyword and compare with different keywords in the list. Repeat this process for all the keywords and calculate which terms are searched more number of times over a period of time.

Why Content Should be King of Your Business Website

You’ve no doubt heard that “content is king” on websites, but do you really know why?

What are people really searching for when they perform a search at Yahoo!, Google, Bing, MSN or another search engine? Information.

They’re looking for a good pre-school for their children and they want to know why one preschool is better than another.

They want a good electrician and they need to know how to differentiate one from another.

They want to learn how the new health care reform bill is going to affect their family.

Know. Learn. Why.

All pertain to looking for information.

If your business website doesn’t give them good, solid information they’re going to leave your site and go to the next site that came up in their search engine results looking for the information you didn’t provide. If they find it at your competitor’s site, she’ll probably get their business.

Instead, if your website is full of information that helps them make a decision, if it is full of facts that will help them make a better decision, if your site is there to help them, you’ll more than likely get them to stick around your site.

And you could very likely get a new client/customer.

The information on your website also is known as copy. In the Internet age, it’s more frequently known as “content.”

You can write your content for your site yourself, of course. But you must keep in mind that any copy on your site should be less about you — your services, your history, your prices — and more about them: How your service or product will make your potential customer’s life better. What problem it will solve for them. What need it will fulfill.

Don’t talk about features: “I’m a plumber available 24 hours a day.” Talk instead about benefits: “I’m a plumber available any time your pipes burst or your toilet overflows, even if it’s at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.”

Write for the 9th Grader in All of Us

People reading online read differently than they do with a print publication. Online readers skim and jump about. You’ll want to be write short (300-600 words maximum per page), and be sure to add plenty of subtitles to highlight the main points you wish your readers to know. Subtitles also create nice whitespace, which eyes reading online love.

Keep your paragraphs short and your sentences even shorter. Write in the active tense. Never: “The plumbing company that’s available for emergencies even on Christmas morning.” Instead: “We’re available for emergencies any time, even at 3 p.m. Christmas morning.”

In addition, keep what my mother used to call the “Dollar words” to a minimum. Instead, write your content at the 8th-, 9th, or 10th grade level.

Remember, inform. Teach. Answer why. And do so in a lively, engaging manner.
